Overview
The objective of our Online A-Level Citizenship Study E-Learning Course to develop student's understanding of classical civilisation. The student will learn about the influence of the classical world on current times. The student will also look at the differences between the classical world and later times. The student will gain analytical and evaluative skills and learn how to write a response to the studied material.
This online course will enable students to: - Develop an interest in, and enthusiasm for, the classical world;
- Gain knowledge and understanding of selected aspects of classical civilisation;
- Develop awareness of the continuing influence of the classical world on later times and of the similarities and differences between them;
- Develop and apply analytical and evaluative skills at an appropriate level;
- Make an informed, personal response to the material studied.

- Art and Architecture in the Greek World

- Free-standing sculpture, architectural sculpture, vases, and temple architecture
- Virgil and the World of the Hero
- Literature, society and values
- Politics
During this course you will use a mixture of lessons, activities, core reading and assessments.
Assessment
The course contains a number of assignments which your tutor will mark and give the student valuable feedback on. These are called Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs).
Examinations
AS Level
- Unit 1: Homer's Odyssey and Society- 1.5h written paper
- Unit 2: Greek Tragedy in its Context- 1.5h written paper
A2 Level
- Unit 3: Art and Architecture in the Greek World- 2h written paper
- Unit 4: Virgil and the World of the Hero- 2h written paper
AS + A2 = A level in Classical Civilisation. Both AS and A2 level courses and examinations must be successfully completed to gain a full A level.
