Developed by Thomas Rudkin and Dennis Austin of Forethought, Inc., PowerPoint was originally designed for Macintosh. PowerPoint was initially launched under the brand name of “Presenter”. In 1987, “Presenter” was renamed to “PowerPoint” courtesy certain trademark issues.Subsequently Forethought was bought by Microsoft in the same year. The Microsoft PowerPoint was launched in mid 1990, alongside the launch of the new Windows 3.0 Operating System.

Microsoft PowerPoint kept on evolving over the years and decades that followed it introduced many new changes with the subsequent releases of PowerPoint 97, PowerPoint 2000, PowerPoint 2002 and later versions. Most notably PowerPoint 2011 made it possible to remove backgrounds from images and incorporated many other new image effects.
